I observed that she did not want to share all the details about her health history since it was associated with that of her father and elder sister. For the section on present health history, I took longer time than expected since she took me round in circles without providing direct responses as to her blood pressure levels and its likely cause. It was also challenging to explain the cause of stress in her life since it was associated with the loss of her second child that was almost luring her to depression.
I was not as comfortable as I thought the experience would be since my patient was a close relative and her health condition affected me. I think that taking a health history a relative requires adequate preparation regarding psychological and emotional aspects both to the interviewee and interviewer. I had to apply certain interviewing techniques to ensure that I gather as much relevant information as possible.
