NAIROBI Women's Ben Gedeon Jersey , March 9 (Xinhua) -- Reigning Olympic marathon champion Stephen Kiprotich said training in Kenya has helped improve his endurance and focus as he prepares to defend his crown in Rio in August.
However, lack of competition in his native Uganda, has left him exposed to manipulation from rival athletes, because his country has very few athletes able to compete at the higher level.
"I have to do it on my own. There are no strategies you deploy other than running in the pack and hope you will be strong enough to sprint in the final straight to beat the opposition," he said on Wednesday from Eldoret.
He is in a training camp in Eldoret with Geoffrey Kamworor, the Beijing world 5 Women's Jaleel Johnson Jersey ,000m silver medalist and London marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge.
"I have to believe in myself and that is why I train hard and compete sparingly to preserve myself for the championships. I am all alone but training with Kenyans has really helped me," he said.
But Kiprotich said that now that he has broken the duck and gone on to win at the Olympics, anything is possible and Uganda can produce more athletes to compete at the international stage.
"I hope to see more Ugandan runners qualify for the marathon at the 2016 Olympics. Winning a marathon requires a lot of tactics. As a country, we need more marathoners at the World Marathon Majors (WMM) because normally, it is countries with a wider sample size of runners that win," he said. Enditem

JERUSALEM, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday that he supports pardoning Elor Azaria, the soldier convicted earlier of the manslaughter of an incapacitated Palestinian assailant in the West Bank.
"This is a difficult and painful day for all of us -- and first and foremost for Elor and his family, for many Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers Women's Everson Griffen Jersey , and for the parents of our soldiers, and me among them," Netanyahu wrote in a post on his Facebook page.
"I support pardoning Elor Azaria," he wrote.
"IDF soldiers are our sons and daughters and they must be above disagreements," he added.
Earlier on Wednesday, a military court in Tel Aviv found Sgt. Azaria guilty of forbidden shooting and unlawful killing of Abdel al-Fattah Yusri al-Sharif Kai Forbath Jersey , 21, on March 24.
Azaria was a 19-year-old military medic in the city of Hebron in the Israeli-occupied West Bank when al-Sharif and Ramzi Aziz al-Qasarwi carried out a knife attack, lightly wounding a soldier.
Troops shot dead al-Qasarwi and gravely wounded al-Sharif. Al-Sharif was lying on the ground, motionless, when Azaria arrived at the scene and shot a single bullet to his head.
The case deeply divided the Israeli society. While senior military officers condemned the act as a serious breach of military orders, many Israelis hailed Azaria as a "hero."
On Wednesday Nick Easton Jersey , before the judges finished to read the verdict, right-wing ministers and lawmakers started calling for an amnesty to Azaria.
Culture and Sports Minister Miri Regev said that she will lead a move to pardon Azaria while far-right Naftali Bennett, leader of the pro-settler faction of the Jewish Home, came out in a strong support for the soldier.
Bennett said he first addressed Netanyahu with a request for clemency for Azaria three months before the trial was over.
Under Israeli military law, the maximum punishment for manslaughter is 20 years in jail. Even if the chief of staff or the Israeli president will decline a pardon request, Azaria's sentence can be substantially reduced by his commanding general.
The incident occurred during a tensed time between Israelis and Palestinians Ryan Quigley Jersey , amidst a spate of violence in the West Bank and Israel. The violence has claimed the lives of at least 240 Palestinians and 34 Israelis since September 2015.
The court's ruling was a rare case of conviction of a soldier for a killing of a Palestinian person.
According to figures released by Human Rights Watch on Wednesday, since October 2015, there have been at least 150 instances in which Israeli security forces have fatally shot Palestinians suspected of carrying out attacks.
BEIJING, July 22 (Xinhua) -- The escalating tension between Israel and Palestine in Jerusalem's Old City has left dozens dead or injured and drawn attention from the international community.
The United Nations Security Council will hold an urgent meeting on Monday morning to discuss the violence unfolding in Jerusalem, diplomats said on Saturday.
The meeting will be held behind closed doors, according to the UN mission of China Mike Remmers Jersey , president of the UN Security Council for July.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Middle East Quartet-- Russia, the United States, the European Union and the UN -- expressed concern over the escalating tension.
On Saturday night, Palestinian worshippers and Israeli police renewed clashes outside East Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque, a day after a similar clash in which three Palestinians were killed and nearly 400 others injured after the Friday prayers Riley Reiff Jersey , according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
On July 14, Israel shut down the holy site and installed checkpoints and metal detectors at its entrances after a shooting attack earlier that day, which killed three Palestinians with Israeli citizenship and two Israeli security officers in the yard of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
The shut-down and metal detectors have sparked a huge protest. The Israeli behavior is seen by the Palestinians as a violation of the status quo at the Muslim-run compound and an Israeli attempt to gain more control over the holy.
